Standard thread hoses have a female short shank fitting at the pump end and a threaded male fitting at the strainer end.

Quick disconnect hoses have a Quick Coupling fitting at the pump end and a threaded male fitting at the strainer end.

The short shank connectors on the standard thread hoses are made from aluminum and have a brass nut - they're designed to bend but not break when run-over.
