Sump pumps that don't rely on your primary power source to provide extra automated service and extra peace of mind. They contain a battery that gets "trickle charged" while you have power so it is always ready to go. Then when your power goes out in a rainy storm, you still manage to pump out the standing water using this backup unit. When power comes back on, the battery gets recharged.

This design is typically used by contractors. They have cages for protection a motor that spins an "impeller" very fast. This spinning action moves things from the inside to the outside (like a centrifuge in chemistry). This constant moving to the outside action is what drives water through the pump.

These machines are regulalry referred to as a "mud hog". Most contractor grade pumps get damaged if you run them dry. Some applications though (such as pumping out ditches) inevitably run dry once at times during pumping operation. Great for irrigating and fighting fires. They typically have one suction port and multiple discharge ports of varying sizes. The smaller the discharge port you use the higher the pressure (in PSI). Or use, multiple discharge ports at the same time. The higher pressure means that they can pump further uphill than centrifugal or trash models.

Great for moving chemicals and water/chemical mixtures. Non "mag drive" pumps suffer damage from the corrosiveness of the chemicals but these little giant models are designed for that from the start and have parts made from non-standard materials to withstand the damage that chemicals bring.

Unlike the normal cage designs, these pumps are designed to be sitting in the water they are pumping. Example use: Just throw the pump into the tank, riover or lake you want to empty and turn it on. They are designed to handle any solids (or trash) that you might have in the water without clogging.
